Musah Swallah of Ghana, Africa
Musah Swallah was born in Nima Accra. He started learning how to draw when he was four years old in nursery school. He grew up fascinated by art in cinema posters, story books and the more attractive things in life. He started by working with crayons, water colors, and colored pencils. When he was fourteen he created his first painting in acrylics. He had his first exhibition during his involvement his junior year art club. He attended La presec senior high school where he studied visual art. He simultaniously had an apprenticeship under two proffesional artists in his community. He is the youngest member of the foundation of contemporary art in Ghana. He is first and formost a painter but at times he works with sculpture. His paintings reflect his experience in various African cultures. He is an artist in a variety of fields, going in and out of various styles from commercial art to portraiture, printing & sign art to contemporary art. Musah Swallah is currently working primarily with mixed media paintings, creating some on wooden planks, and recycling materials like plastics, bottle covers, and used pieces of clothing. His colors are striking as is the deep spiritual drive visible in the pieces themselves.
